Lapislazuli in history

Proceeding from Afghanistan, the history of Lapis Lazuli dates back to 6.000 years. It's been cherished by ancient civilizations, including Persia, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome, all of them considered it precious, spiritual and powerful . But it was Egyptians who chose as their favourite stone, creating with it amazing jewels for their nobility and kings. One of its most fascinating examples is the tomb of Tutankhamen, created with gold and richly inlaid with lapislazuli.

Its pigments were used in the Renaissance period to create the ultramarine color, highly valued by the most relevant painters of that time, such as Michelangelo, who used it to paint the frescos of the Sixtine Chapel. Painter Vermeer used it later in his Girl with a Pearl Earring painting.

Blue as the ocean

We love it by its deep blue tone, by its beauty and magnetism, which reminds us of the intensity of the ocean. We find its dark blue color as easy to combine as black, but more vibrant and expresive. Just as navy blue, it matches almost every color.  As all stones proceeding from nature, we are fascinated by the fact that it has taken millions of years for them to be formed.

We use them in the shape of cabochon, with their surface polished, playing with different combinations. We like it combined with green, creating an elegant match. We also love it combined with turquoise, resulting in a fun and fresh match, especially for blue lovers!
